TONI HASSAN

Trust Me

26 April - 5 May 2024, CCAS Manuka

Exhibition Opening 6pm Wednesday 24 April 2024
To be opened by ACT Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA, and Rev. Carolyn Kitto, freedom advocate and long-time friend of the artist.

A poignant, multimedia exploration of Kamberri/Canberra-based artist Toni Hassan’s personal and collective geography of her life-altering experience of cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2023. Hassan offers paintings, a video work, photographs, found-object installations and textiles using reclaimed materials, to bring to light the physical, psychological, spiritual and surreal nature of her adventure and the visual culture of hospital care. She does so in a way to integrate her experiences and adjust a taboo surrounding cancer in a public health context.
