ANDREW TOMKINS

4 - 13 November 2022 @ CCAS MANUKA

This body of work comes from a deeply reflective period. Its common thread is of our personal impermanence - the fleeting moments that strings together life’s shared history. Yet similarly we each share this driving urge to leave an indelible mark for the future. Before we are no more.

Whether the passing of a loved one, the branding of a continent 400 years ago, the ruins of Europe, a pandemic; we all endeavour to leave a legacy.

My practise is driven primarily by the skill of drawing, however I allow my materials and technique to lead my work into unexpected directions. Through this practise, I encourage the audience to question the physical piece, the composition, and medium and method of creation. I obsessively chase not only the negative space but the negative volume. An infinite volume that permeates the universe.
