Changing Rooms - Domestically Interior
Elly Kent
|
Elly Kent’s current exhibition explores renovation, that icon of suburban Australian lifestyle. The impetus for this installation stems from the rooms in which she spent her childhood; rooms in late 19th century houses that were always in various states of disrepair, reconstruction or renovation.
Changing Rooms creates a nostalgic and decorative space using a domestic discard (ring pull) that is rarely associated with these concepts. Elly challenges and subverts assumptions we make about the ‘authenticity’ of those decorative elements that make up ornate patterning.
