Girls don't like small tanks
Lizzie Hall

Canberra Contemporary Art Space Manuka presents Girls don't like small tanks,  Lizzie Hall’s latest exhibition that pairs sculptural forms that she refers to as tanks and a series of large-scale paintings using mixed media. The tanks and paintings continue Hall’s interest in geo-politics, power relations, and belief systems.

Inverting the military codes of power and domination Lizzie Hall uses crotchet, felt, and abandoned soft toys to construct an ineffectual battalion of soft-shelled toy tanks. Time, care, and the act of making these works render any notions of power associated them to be atrophied, broken, and failed.  Hall takes on the dominance of the global military/industrial complex and questions the idea of aggression as an adequate form of solving conflict.
