MAINspace

Samuel Tupou uses patterns directly derived from and inspired by traditional Tongan tapa design. Set against bright plastic colours and found imagery from western popular culture his artwork reflects the contemporary dilemmas of cultural identity. Using commercial / light industrial materials enables Tupou to explore and portray the plasticity of Western Culture.

Steven Holland Bible flower spiders 2007

Steven Holland
Bible flower spiders are a series of collages created from a combination of spiders photographed in our house and pressed flowers found in Bibles. In some ways the Bible flower spiders are about mothers. My mother is anachrophobic and I live in my partner's mothers house. (artist's statement)
