Scatch the Surface: pathways of desire
Doug Hendry
The physical boundaries of urban environments are designed to direct and in particular restrict the flow of movement through space.
The act of skateboarding disrupts such possession. Un-programmed movement and the direct personal connection with an environment re-assert the individual’s right to territorial possession. Skateboarding destroys imposed physical boundaries.
Skateboarding is a sensual, unstructured, moving journey through time and space. The marks and sounds of skateboarding result from physical action and surface tension. These tensions embody speed, control, movement and the creation of new boundaries.
