These photographs on paper are about the fragility and sense of impermanence of the world. So it goes. Some are taken from a great distance around the spaces of cities, revisiting again and again the detritus of habitation or the shape and punctuation of nature or details of figures in close-up.

Museum Stills
Adad Hannah

I began working on Stills in 2001. This body of video works is now divided into several sub-groups including museum Stills, architectural Stills and Stills from life. When I embarked on what would become the Stills series I was considering the importance of sound in video, as well as techniques of trick-photography from the early days of cinema. Once I removed sound, motion, and trickery from the moving pictures of film and video, Stills is what remained. Yet by having the models pose as if caught in action, I preserve an element of surprise in a static image.
