Dysfunctional Feed
Dysfunctional Feed is a loose collective comprising of approximately twenty young sound, video and new media artists hailing from the Blue Mountains, Sydney's west and the inner city. The group is driven by a shared compulsion to create a dialogue with technology through their individual artmaking processes, engaging conceptually, physically and often collaboratively in producing time-based and site-based works for performance and installaton. Dysfunctional Feed functions doubly as a post-tertiary networking/social hub and has put on a number of experimental performance nights, several group shows at key Sydney artist-run galleries such as FirstDraft and Wedding Circle, contributed a group work to the Nextwave 2006 Container Project in Melbourne and organised the Process Space, a site for technical workshops at Newcastle's Electrofringe Festival for the last two years running.
For Ctrl+Alt+Del, Dysfunctional Feed artists are offering a showcase of sound and video-based performances, primarily consisting of solo and collaborative pieces situated within the ambiguous milieu of experimental music. These performances range in content from laptop "focus listening" pieces to cinematic industrial analog sounds via a playful crossover into the world of videogame music. All play the borderline between music and sound, and offer a unique insght into the up-and-comng end of Sydney's lively Sound Art scene. Installed in the gallery space is a showreel of new Dysfunctional Feed video works, along with a visual and sonic feast of older work and previous group projects.

For their first major collaborative project together, Natalie Thomas and Kristen Phillips take up the crucial and topical issue of the place of women artists in contemporary society and art history.
Why are women artists prone to sacrificing their own careers for that of their male partners? And why, from Artemisia Gentileschi to Lee Krasner, is art history littered with examples of talented women overshadowed by their male counterparts?
In 'Picassol', Phillips and Thomas turn to the fraught relationship between Pablo Picasso and surrealist photographer Dora Maar. Picasso was notorious for his emotional abuse of women and allegedly insulted Dora cruelly as she modelled for the infamous, mangled green portrait of 1937, Weeping Woman, now in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria (most of the time).
The core of 'Picassol' is a series of performative video works, several of which are incorporated into remakes of Picasso's sculptural works, namely 'Goat' and 'Skipping girl'.
