Since 2000 I have been using palm trees in my work to reference their use as icons in modern western culture where they represent both paradise and the exotic. Palm trees have been adopted by advertising to represent those things that we desire and aspire to...However, the power to acquire and consume those things has been divorced in our consciousness from the reality of production.

It is easy to think of the city as an oasis but it is timely to imagine deserts as hungry consumers waiting at the outskirts of the suburban fringe
